Clara (she/her) is a Chicago-based director, playwright, and dramaturg. She is passionate about utilizing theater as a tool for social change and firmly believes in theater’s ability to uplift and unify diverse voices. Clara is committed to works that offer poignant reflections of contemporary society, prompting audiences to engage critically with societal norms. With an emphasis on spreading untold stories, she strives to give new artists a platform. In the rehearsal room, Clara focuses on empathy and community building and works to create an environment rooted in compassion and trust. 

Clara graduated with highest honors from Oberlin College in 2022 with a BA in Theater and Comparative American Studies. She was also a recipient of the Nash Drama Award for exceptional achievement in Oberlin Theater. At Oberlin, Clara studied under Justin Emeka, Caroline Jackson-Smith, and Paul Moser. She assistant directed for Justin Emeka in Juilliard's production of A Doll’s House Part 2

Clara made her Chicago directorial debut at The Understudy with the Midwest premiere of The Lacy Project. She worked with the production company Snails on a Bike. In Chicago, Clara also studies improv at Annoyance Theatre. At the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023 she directed Sophie Sucks Face, which was given five 4 star reviews, shortlisted for best show for the prestigious Edinburgh Comedian's Choice Awards, and was on the British Comedy Guide's Highly recommended list. 

Clara’s original play Fishing for Whales was selected for the 2024 Cherry Picking season. As a playwright, Clara focuses on contemporary theater centering around non-male voices. She is committed to diversity in her work and uses her dramaturgical skills to create stories that differ from her own. Clara’s work has been featured in New York City, Ohio, and Chicago.

Clara is thrilled to be joining Goodman Theatre as the dramaturgy and literary intern for the 2024/2025 season!
